UK port hailed for its green credentials

Visiting the Port of Blyth in the north east of England, Ms Ghani learn more about its rapid development into one of the UK’s leading offshore energy support hubs and took a tour of two key features of Blyth’s Energy Central offering – the renewables test facilities of the ORE Catapult and the GB£30m quayside development project taking place at the Northumberland Energy Park.

Maritime Minister Nusrat Ghani said: “The maritime industry is at the heart of the UK’s economy. The Port of Blyth is not only one of our key ports as a global trading nation, but also a fantastic example of the thriving offshore wind sector that is boosting renewable energy across the UK.”

2050 boost

The port’s research and testing facilities could play a key part in helping the UK government achieve the goals set out in the Maritime 2050 strategy.

At the heart of the strategy is a focus on precisely the sort of clean growth and transition to zero emission industry, business and operations that the Port of Blyth is focusing on.

Energy Central is a unique partnership between Port of Blyth, Northumberland County Council, the council’s development arm Advance Northumberland and the Offshore Energy Renewable Catapult, designed to create the perfect environment for inward investment from the offshore and renewable energy sector.
