Kongsberg Maritime is hailing a ‘new era in offshore operations’ with the successful delivery of the Reach Remote 1, a 24-metre unmanned surface vessel (USV).

A collaboration between REACH SUBSEA, Massterly, Trosvik Maritime and Kongsberg Maritime, the Reach Remote 1 has recently completed rigorous sea trials overseen by DNV and the Norwegian Maritime Authority.

Its first mission will involve conducting underwater surveys off the coast of Haugesund, Norway, with future applications expected to span a wide range of offshore operations. A second vessel, Reach Remote 2, is now expected to begin sea trials.

A ‘new era in offshore operations’ has begun

“Reach Remote is an extraordinary journey, bringing together the unique expertise of Kongsberg Maritime, Reach Subsea, and Massterly shaping the future of uncrewed offshore operations,” said Bjørg Mathisen Døving, vice president, Reach Remote of REACH SUBSEA.

“We are thrilled to see the Reach Remote 1 set sail and prepared for its first mission.”

Kongsberg Maritime played a key role as the prime contractor, overseeing vessel design, delivery, supply chain management and systems integration.

“What began as a visionary idea has now become a tangible reality,” said Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, president of Kongsberg Maritime. “The Reach Remote 1 is a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of maritime technology.”

The trials were monitored from a mobile remote operations centre on board the support vessel, Avant. In future operations, Massterly, a joint venture between Kongsberg Maritime and Wilhelmsen, will control the vessel remotely from a land-based centre in Horten, Norway.
