New York Harbor launches first hybrid electric ferry

New York’s Trust for Governors Island is launching the Harbor Charger, the state’s first hybrid electric ferry, marking a major leap in ferry electrification in the USA.

The US$33 million vessel will connect the island’s growing community of visitors and tenants, replacing the 69-year-old diesel powered Lt. Samuel S. Coursen ferry.
