RanMarine unveils MegaShark clean-up vessel
RanMarine Technology has commercially launched a mid-sized, fully-electric vessel to help clean up near-shore waters.
The latest addition to RanMarine’s fleet of autonomous surface vessels, the MegaShark has been designed to capture and remove floating waste, algae and biomass from ports, harbours, marinas, canals, lakes and rivers.
“The MegaShark complies with new sustainable fuel legislation and can deploy advanced water-quality sensors, providing crucial data feedback that helps our clients understand and maximise their environmental impact,” said Richard Hardiman, chief executive and founder of RanMarine.
“Its rapid deployment capabilities and efficient waste collection system help mitigate long-term environmental damage, promoting healthier aquatic ecosystems, while the vessel’s 100% recyclable aluminium hull enhances its sustainability.”
The MegaShark has a number of operation modes, including on board, remote control from shore, and autonomous navigation with LiDAR-based collision avoidance.
It has a shallow draft and catamaran hull and can hold up to 880 litres/440 kg of waste, a five-fold increase over the existing WasteShark model.
The vessel’s battery supports up to eight hours of operation, extendable to 16 hours, and it uses RanMarine’s navigation and autonomous software.
With customers in more than 30 countries, RanMarine’s partners and clients include Walt Disney, Hudson River Park, PortsToronto, BIC Services, Port of Halifax and Dallas County.
