Wärtsilä has increased its dredger offering by signing a five-year deal with one of the largest dredger fleets in the Middle East.

Based in Abu Dhabi, NMDC Group is one of the biggest dredging and marine contractors in the Middle East, with 18 dredgers and a large portfolio of marine engineering projects under its belt.

Wärtsilä will take over seven of its dredgers, ‘with the potential to expand the scope to additional vessels in the future’.

“The scope includes a tailor-made maintenance programme for the engine and propulsion equipment onboard the vessels, as well as digital solutions and performance guarantees,” a statement by Wärtsilä said. “These are all aimed at increasing fleet availability and optimising maintenance costs.”

One of the main reasons for signing the agreement is to minimise downtime for NMDC’s vessels, the company says, which could lead to additional earnings of €3 million and increase the flexibility of its schedule.

“Increasing availability and reducing downtime of our vessels is a priority for our company. That’s why this new agreement with Wärtsilä serves as a cornerstone in our efforts to advance reliable and sustainable operations within the Middle East,” said Peter Marvin, chief Technical & Resource Pool officer at NMDC Group.

At the time of writing, Wärtsilä had not responded to Maritime Journal’s requests for more details of the dredgers.
