Workboat shipping solutions at Seawork

The shipment of two large commercial vessels simultaneously can provide many different challenges, all of which were overcome by PM SHIPPING. The Germany based project cargo specialists were able to offer their client an all-inclusive quotation.

The two vessels, built in Germany and each measuring over 30m long, were loaded direct from the water in Rotterdam and discharged direct to water on arrival in Lagos. PM SHIPPING personally handled all stages of the shipment, providing a variety of services such as commercial divers, transport cradles, marine load survey, specialist load master, export documentation and also transport insurance, all of which are vital to a successful shipment.

For example, during the lifting of the second vessel, while positioning the lifting slings underwater, the diver found that part of the keel in midships was quite sharp and could potentially damage or even cut the slings. So to avoid this, the PM SHIPPING loadmaster organised, with assistance from terminal staff, thick rubber mats to be placed between the slings and the keel.

The cradle support systems were placed on deck and arranged according to the dimensions and technical drawings of the vessels while also accounting for the structural specifications of the ocean vessel. Both cradles were then welded on deck and the vessels were lashed accordingly. Finally the independent marine surveyor, load master and ship’s captain inspected the lashing and securing of both vessels and found them to be “in good order and condition for the intended voyage”.
