The recent combined efforts of Neptune Shipyards and Rotterdam based marine services company Stemat have resulted in the new Stemat 89, a multi-purpose barge with accommodation capacity for 60 persons.

'Stemat 89'

The barge, which is under the full control of Stemat, will be used primarily be used for cable laying jobs but can be used for a wide variety of other works. Stemat 89 is classed by Bureau Veritas for unrestricted navigation. It measures 80m LOA, with a beam of 24m and a draft of 5m. Three generating sets deliver a total combined power of 1,950 kW in parallel configuration. Stemat 89 is equipped with a total of six hydraulic constant tension winches for positioning, and all winches can hold up to 1,000m of steel wire.

The barge also has a very large ballasting capacity that can be remotely operated from the bridge.

Accommodation is built to a very high standard and provides everything crew members could need during their stay on board. There is a large messroom with galley, dry stores, freezing stores, toilets, changing rooms, etc. In addition to the messroom, a full deck with offices is provided and there is also a large bridge deck overseeing the complete deck area below which provides even more office space.

The Stemat 89 is now operating at a UK wind farm where it is performing cable laying activities.
