McMurdo showcases AtoNs at SMM

The company was showcasing its full range of safety products including the new R5 GMDSS VHF handheld radio which was being launched at the show.

McMurdo’s KanAtoN transponder range features Automatic Identification System (AIS) technology and can be installed on floating or fixed AtoNs such as buoys and lighthouses. The AIS technology enables transmissions of accurate information including name, type, dimensions and MMSI identification number of the navaids to which the beacon is attached.

The transponder range can also transmit GPS and meteorological and hydrological data, providing mariners and marine authorities with real time notification. The transponders, which can operate in any weather conditions and in temperature as low as -60°, significantly reduce the risk of collision between shipping and large structures.

McMurdo’s range of signals are used by government and port authorities, offshore companies and scientists and can be used on oil and gas platforms, wind and wave energy farms, offshore docks, pipelines and instrumented buoys to improve navigational safety for shipping.
