ZF Marine firsts at SMM 2012
Germany’s ZF Marine Group had a lot to shout about at this year’s SMM trade fair in Hamburg – it launched a new hybrid ready ZF 5300 PTI transmission gearbox and introduced its new executive vice president in industrial technology to customers.
The ZF 5300 PTI transmission is suitable for all types of fast vessels and workboats powered by engines up to 2300 kW (3100 hp) at 2300 rpm, with ratio from 2.9 to 5.5. Depending on the application, these gearboxes are available with light alloy or cast iron housings. It has a low noise gear design, improved shifting comfort and short engagement times, all within a highly compact design.
Because it’s a hybrid propulsion solution, the gearbox offers both environmental protection and fuel savings to customers. They can be customised and installed in most marine applications including ferries and Offshore Supply vessels (OSVs).
ZF’s new executive vice president industrial technology and head of marine propulsion systems, Matthias Benz, was also on hand at the show this week to engage with customers.
He was positive about ZF’s future success and talked about the company focusing on two main trends in future, economy and comfort – in both commercial and pleasure applications fuel efficiency is gaining more and more importance without sacrificing performance.
“This is our focus for existing and new product offerings such as hybrid-ready transmission technology, azimuthing thruster systems for all types of professional applications, and ZF POD propulsion systems for pleasure boat applications”, he said.
