The acquisition will provide new opportunities for both companies in the growing offshore and coastal monitoring market.

OceanWaveS radar based wave and surface current measuring technology, WaMoS, will allow Rutter’s sigma S6 Ice Navigator to be further developed for offshore oil development, cold oceans exploration, coastal monitoring and protection.

Fraser Edison, president and CEO, Rutter, told Maritime Journal: “Having a presence in Germany where so many terrific technologies are developed, means having a technological presence in a hub of European shipping. Combining the Rutter and OceanWaves technologies will enable more comprehensive reporting of ocean surface conditions and will serve to create a predictive capability in our products, which will enable front line users to make earlier and better risk management decisions. We will be consolidating all of this information with one operator aboard a vessel or at a monitoring station, bringing value to our customers in the form of operational efficiencies.”

He added: “In key markets where there is limited overlap between our products, our focus will be on dealer training and leveraging existing relationships to quickly introduce new product into existing channels which we have not previously had access to.”

The merger will also provide existing customers with more innovative technologies for oil spill response efforts.
