IHC Merwede dredger delivery
Netherlands based dredging expert, IHC Merwede, has delivered a 5,500m³ trailing suction dredger to the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) three weeks ahead of schedule.
Delivery took place at Waalhaven in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where the dredger was received by the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) Manager, Mr YSR Murthy.
As reported by Maritime Journal back in April 2012, the DCI Dredge XIX is the first vessel of three in a series which will also include the DCI Dredge XX and XXI. IHC has previously delivered ten other vessels to DCI.
IHC’s contract for the DCI Dredge XIX, signed back in April 2010, included its design, engineering and delivery. It was estimated for delivery in mid to late December 2012.
DCI Dredge XIX has been specifically designed for the task taking into account the river’s soil properties, strong current and shallow depth.
It will now be deployed for maintenance on the Hooghly River, a tributary of the Ganges in West Bengal where it will dredge to depths of 25m through twin 700mm diameter suction pipes.
