New UK player in windfarm vessels

They are catamarans and monohulls from 12m to 27m, one of which will be on display at Seawork 2013.

Drew Reyland, from McTay Marine Services Ltd and Alucatz Catamarans, calls the new vessels: “A revolutionary new way of serving the ever growing offshore windfarm industry. With ever increasing fuel costs and increased need for efficiency it was about time that somebody came up with a solution.”

The vessels will be powered by revolutionary new engines “capable of running on anything” and according to Mr Reyland, they could help change the industry.

He explained that these vessels have been designed to maintain the same speeds, higher in some cases, as conventional windfarm vessels, However, they have a major advantage. The range is three times more efficient than a similar vessel with the same size fuel tank and the new engines generate virtually zero emissions.

Mr Reyland said to Maritime Journal: “We hope to have a 15m aluminium windfarm catamaran ready for Seawork 2013 and we also hope to have the 24m mono hull fast patrol boat ready for the Southampton Boat Show in 2013.”

Alucatz Catamarans and its shipyard, McTay Marine Services Ltd, don’t just stick to windfarm vessels though. They build a large number of standard commercial vessels including tugs, pilot and patrol boats, multi-cats and landing crafts.
