Incat Crowther designs bulletproof crew boats
Australian boatbuilder, Incat Crowther, has been contracted to design a pair of bulletproof monohull crew boats for the fleet of Nigerian C&I Leasing Plc.
Under the contract, Incat will design the vessels based on previous vessels, Deborah, Perez and Ahuva, which were built for C&I Leasing in 2011.
One of the main features of the vessels will be a bulletproof pilothouse, which will be fitted with bulletproof glass and Armox 500T steel which is capable of withstanding an AK-47 cartridge fired at a distance of 10m.
The pilothouse will be fitted with overhead windows to enhance visibility when approaching offshore platforms.
The 20m vessels will also feature a large cargo deck, a pair of doors from the passenger compartment, side gates and removable handrails to allow for flexible loads and bow loading either side of the foredeck cargo.
They will be equipped with a pair of MAN 2842 LE410 main engines to give a maximum speed of 30 knots and a pair of propellers which will be fitted in tunnels to meet the demanding draft requirement.
The main deck passenger cabin will feature seating for 25 passengers, with two staterooms and crew accomodation below deck.
The vessels will be built at Veecraft Marine’s shipyard in South Africa and are expected to be delivered in mid 2013.
