IMCA highlights safety in the new year
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), the trade organisation which represents offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies, has highlighted the hazards of electrical shocks and noise damage in two new offshore safety cards.
IMCA’s 22nd safety card covers electrical hazards which can kill or severely injure people and cause damage to equipment. It also provides advice on how to reduce risk.
The 23rd card warns of the dangers of too much and prolonged exposure to noise, which can cause permanent and disabling damage to hearing. It contains simple safety checks and advice on how to reduce exposure and ensure hearing protection works correctly.
Jane Bugler, technical director, IMCA, said: “IMCA’s pocket cards highlight important safety issues that workers can keep at hand, literally in their pocket.”
Meanwhile, IMCA is entering a new era during the first week of 2013 with a new chief executive, Chris Charman. Mr Charman took over from Hugh Williams, who retired at the end of 2012 after ten years.
The IMCA chief executive leads the IMCA secretariat and is responsible for delivering the association’s extensive global work programme.
Chris Charman is a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management, and an Associate member of both the Chartered Institute of Insurers and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
