Transas receives RINA and Lloyd’s Register approvals

Under the international Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, cargo ships over 300 gross tonnes must be equipped with a minimum suite of radio equipment to communicate with rescue coordination centres.

Regular inspections of a vessel’s Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) are required under SOLAS regulations to ensure the safety of the crew and passengers onboard.

With these approvals from RINA and Lloyd’s Register, Transas can now offer combined VDR APT and Radio Survey which will reduce costs and save time for its customers.

Lidia Selivanova, communications and marketing manager, Transas Marine, told Maritime Journal: “A certified engineer should attend a vessel and carry out inspection according to a check list and make sure that all equipment is in proper condition. The benefit for a vessel is that after such an inspection it has confirmation that all equipment is in working in order, allowing it to leave a port.”

Meanwhile, in response to the growing demand for ECDIS training, Transas has published an ECDIS Workbook which can be used together with its ECDIS demo software.

The main aim of the workbook is to provide the vessel’s crew with knowledge, understanding and proficiency in the use of Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS and Chart Assistant Utility.
