PPG marine coatings milestone
International marine coatings expert, PPG Protective & Marine Coatings, has just installed its 1000th Sigmacare Plus system which allows vessels to manage their coatings onboard ship – and its marine coatings business is doing pretty well too.
The Sigmacare Plus system was specifically designed to simplify onboard coatings management for both individual vessels and large fleets – it allows a vessel manager and crew to organise coatings management, eliminating the complications associated with onboard maintenance.
Sijmen Visser, global marketing manager M&R, PPG Protective and Marine Coatings, said: “Managing coatings onboard a vessel can be quite complex. Keeping track of what coatings to use and where to apply them, of which colour and mixing ratios, means giving the crew a system that is clear, easy to understand and which will improve the overall quality of onboard maintenance. We believe the simpler and clearer something is, the better it will work.”
The system features a unique inventory control and product ordering system, allowing vessels to place stock inquiries whilst at sea. The system offers the ability to create simple, clear maintenance charts that can be printed out and used in the vessel’s paint locker. Users have a complete list of PPG products and where they are available world-wide.
PPG secured a large contract with Svitzer for its EcoTugs project in October last year. Svitzer chose PPG’s high efficiency/low maintenance coating, Sigmaglide 990, which being completely biocide-free helped the company meet its environmental performance goals setting a new environmental standard for tugboats.
