WTS taps into US offshore market

Wilhelmsen Technical Solutions (WTS) has opened an office in Houston, Texas, to service growing demand in the offshore energy market in the US Gulf and South America.

Philip Bannerman: “We wanted to be closer to where our customers are.”

WTS particularly wants to focus on Brazil, where it says that deepwater offshore production is entering a new and dynamic phase.

Philip Bannerman, WTS Vice President, Americas, says the company is well placed to provide the mix of skills and competence in demand in these regions.

He said: “Both US and Brazilian offshore & energy markets are booming and we wanted to be closer to where our customers are. As offshore activity grows, the challenge for operators is sourcing a reliable partner with a global reach, qualified personnel and the depth of service offer to support their business.”

WTS says that through its new Houston office, it can start to address the shortage of the skilled personnel among specialist offshore contractors, directly employing personnel in the US and drawing on its offices world-wide to provide specialised knowledge.

Typical projects carried out at the new office will include pre-engineering on newbuilds as well as modifications, midlife upgrades and key maintenance projects between and during drydocks.
