The design of the vessels will be based on the company’s recent series of pilot vessels, which were delivered to the Finnish piloting agency, Finnpilot Pilotage.

Kewatec, which specialises in aluminium professional boats, won the deal following a lengthy competition with several other Swedish boat yards.

Karl-Erik Wargh, CEO, Kewatec AluBoat, said: “The deal strengthens Kewatec AluBoat’s position in the market for fast pilot vessels in Northern Europe, and is a further reaffirmation that the quality of our products meets very high standards of quality.”

The vessels will be constructed at Kewatec AluBoat’s facilities in Kokkola, Finland and are expected to be delivered during this year and the following.

The Swedish Maritime Agency, Sjöfartsverket, is a Swedish government agency which carries out piloting services in the Swedish maritime territory. Each year its pilots perform around 40,000 piloting missions.
