Free course on Motorways of the Sea

The course will run for one week from 22 to 26 April 2013and forms part of the EU TEN-T funded project TrainMoS – Training the Human Element for Efficient Freight Transport with Maritime Links. Several eminent lecturers and professionals from the industry will be part of the course.

This course is free and is open to anyone (e.g. students, industry and policy makers) with an interest to learn more about maritime transport logistics and specifically Motorways of the Sea. Guests are invited to attend lectures taking place according to their interests and it is allowable to attend only selected lectures if preferred. On the afternoon of Tuesday 23 April there will be a coach trip visit to view DFDS Motorways of the Sea operations at the Port of Rosyth.

The course kicks off with the Motorways of the Sea concept on the Monday. Tuesday covers Motorways of the Sea policy, followed by the excursion to Rosyth. Wednesday spotlights Motoways of the Sea economics while Thursday discusses its operations and strategies. The course concludes on Friday with a widening of the Motorways of the Sea concept to neighbouring countries.

In addition to being part of the TrainMoS EU Project, participants will have the possibility to follow via the Video Conferencing System other courses provided by several partner universities within the project consortium. Each pilot action will be developed under the following topics:

1. Port, terminals and hinterland links – Jacobs University

2. Smart cities and intelligent ports – University of Genoa

3. Green ports and efficient Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) – The Technical University of Madrid

4. Multimodality and sustainable logistics – National Technical University of Athens

5. Multimodal transport economics – Edinburgh Napier University

6. Safety and security – Chalmers University of Technology

7. Logistic Chains and Modal Integration – University of Lisbon
