Boskalis acquires €75m dredging contract

Under the contract, which was awarded for a period of three years, Boskalis will maintain part of the shipping fairway of the River Elbe in Germany, spanning 110 km.

The dredging activities will maintain the shipping fairway between the city of Wedel and Cuxhaven. The River Elbe is an important shipping connection between the North Sea and the Port of Hamburg, where Boskalis recently carried out maintenance work on the port’s basins.

During the three year contract period, the company will remove a total of around 28,000,000m³ of sand and silt, which it will then transport and place in designated areas along the river.

To carry out the work, the company will use a medium to large sized trailing suction hopper dredger, as well as a small trailing suction hopper dredger for the shallow areas.

Boskalis says this project is driven by increasing global trade, part of its strategy which aims to benefit from key worldwide economic factors which drive global demand in its markets.
