Veka delivers offshore catamaran
Netherlands based shipbuilding company, Veka Group, has delivered the first high speed catamaran to fellow Dutch company, Royal Wagenborg, for use in the offshore windfarm industry.
Royal Wagenborg will use the catamaran to transfer crew, equipment and supplies to remote windfarms in the North Sea.
The lightweight aluminium construction of the catamaran provides a top speed of 27 nautical miles. It has the capacity to carry a total of 12 passengers, three crew members and three 10ft containers.
Veka is due to launch a second catamaran later this week for a shakedown cruise. This second vessel will also be servicing offshore windfarms.
The company says it hopes that with the development of a series of powerful catamarans, it can cater for the increasing demand in the market for fast and safe transport of personnel, technicians and equipment to and from offshore windfarms.
