Mermaid Marine success at Seawork
Mermaid Marine, based in Poole UK, was at Seawork this year to promote its range of marine engines to the tug, ferry and fishing vessel markets – and it secured more interest than last year.
Julian Osborne, Mermaid Marine, said to Maritime Journal: “Around 70% of our business is commercial so Seawork is the right show for us. Whether it was the additional hall this year or our new JCB engine and Hydragen system, something generated more interest for us than last year.”
The company used the show to launch its brand new four cylinder JCB based marine engine at the show.
Newly launched just a month ago, the Tier 3 rated medium speed 160hp JCB J444 TCAE turbo charged engine certainly generated quite a bit of attention at the show this year.
Despite the fact that it’s newly launched, customers are already recognising its advantages – it’s so clean it doesn’t need after treatment, needs less servicing and is space saving.
Following the show, Mermaid has confirmed an order with a client to re-power a pilot boat with two FPT N67 280 engines. Also, new requirements for a ferry contract abroad have lead to an order for five AGCO POWER (SISU) 84CTIM engines along with five new ZF 305-2A gearboxes.
Mermaid Marine also used Seawork to launch its new range of hydraulic generators at Seawork, which its called “Hydragen”. The system, which was entered into the Seawork Innovations Showcase this year, is suitable for all Mermaid Marine engines, it can be tailored for use in a wide range of marine and industrial applications and does away with the need for an auxiliary engine.
The manifold module can also power additional hydraulic equipment such as a bow thruster or winch.
