B&M Marine Services offers new training
The UKs Birmingham and Midland Marine Services has added two new courses to its existing NGB approved training programmes – ‘HSE approved First Aid at Work’ and ‘HSE Approved Manual Handling’.
The First Aid course is aimed at canal and river users, in either the commercial or voluntary sectors. It will focus on crush injuries, near drowning and other waterways related injuries. The three day course is a Level 3 QCF Award and meets the 1981 Health and Safety Regulations.
Richard Gray, operations manager, Birmingham and Midland Marine Services, told Maritime Journal: “We are aiming to be a training centre which concentrates on providing quality training for business working on both the inland waterways and on open water in the UK.”
Mr Gray added: “Instead of concentrating just on leisure users, we are marketing at commercial and volunteer groups and companies in order to offer bespoke training courses, covering an individual organisations needs. Our accreditation as a recognised MCA BoatMaster Training centre, offering ‘Short Courses’ is currently being appraised.”
The One day Manual Handling course, graded at a Level 2 QCF Award, also meets HSE recommendations and promotes safe practises in any situation.
The courses are available from 27 to 29 August 2013, 7 to 10 October 2013, 11 to 14 November 2013 and 16 to 19 December 2013.
Limited places are available and the courses will be run from Penkridge, Staffordshire.
Birmingham and Midlands Marine Services runs a number of RYA, NCBA, IWA, MCA and HSE approved courses ranging from Boat Master preparation and VHF to basic boat handling courses.
