New wind prediction software

The company’s Hybrid Renewable Energy Forecasting (HyRef) technology combines weather prediction and analytics to accurately forecast the availability of wind power and solar energy.

The aim behind the technology is to get more energy into the power grid, reduce carbon emissions and significantly improve clean energy output for consumers and businesses.

But could this technology also mean reducing repair and maintenance work too for the commercial marine offshore wind energy sector?

This project builds upon another IBM smarter analytics initiative at Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems.

Through the close analysis of data gained from weather reporters, tidal phases, sensors, satellite images, deforestation maps, and weather modelling research, Vestas has learnt where to strategically place wind turbines.

This not only deliver improvements in energy generation but also reduces maintenance and operational costs over the life of the renewable energy project.
