Security checks
The London based Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI) is urging the shipping industry to check that ship security plans are in place, are workable and fit for purpose.
Vital steps are to be taken by shipowners to safeguard their seafarers, cargoes and vessels. This comes after an attempted terrorist attack on a vessel transiting the Suez Canal and evidence of threats to vessels in the Eastern Mediterranean. Some flag States have recently raised their International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code security levels.
