Anholt offshore windfarm opened
Anholt offshore windfarm was officially inaugurated today, making it Denmark’s largest wind power project.
For the windfarm, Siemens supplied, installed and commissioned 111 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6MW and a rotor diameter of 120m.
Its total electrical generating capacity of 400MW will be enough to supply around 400,000 Danish households with clean electricity, thereby covering around 4% of the country’s overall power demand.
Markus Tacke, CEO, wind power division, Siemens’ energy sector, said: “Despite some challenging weather conditions, we have successfully executed the Anholt offshore wind power project on schedule.”
The Anholt windfarm is located off Denmark’s eastern coast, around 20km northeast of the Jutland peninsula.
For Siemens, Anholt is already the fifth offshore wind power plant to be formally inaugurated within a few weeks. In July and August, the world’s largest offshore wind power plant, the London Array (630MW), and Britain’s Greater Gabbard (504MW) and Lincs (270MW) projects officially went online.
In Germany, the first commercial offshore wind power plant in the North Sea, Riffgat (108MW), was officially inaugurated in August.
