New Meercat design

The UK’s Meercat Workboats has raised the bar in workboat design again with its latest dual lift design.

Meercat has already started construction on the 18m design which features twin 40 tonne metre Iron Fist cranes, with a radius of 16m each.

For heavy lift operations the cranes can be combined to give a tandem lift of 17.9 tonnes at 4.3m or 2.48 tonnes at 16.6m.

Peter Smith, Meercat Workboats, says that when not rigged for tandem work, the cranes can be operated independently, invaluable for pipeline work.

He added that urther enhancements to the new vessel include a complete re-design of the wheelhouse to allow for improved visibility all round, particularly over the working deck via corner and low level grazing.

As with all Meercat workboats, the 18m dual lift is road transportable. The vessel design allows it to be broken down into two 4m hulls, making delivery quick, economical and non-weather dependent.

The vessel is due to be launched in November 2013.
