Baltic mission

Geoquip Marine AG is embarking on a project in conjunction with the Integrated Ocean Drilling Programme (IODP) and the British Geological Survey (BGS).

The project team will investigate the conditions at and beneath the seabed in the Baltic sea by means of drilling into and sampling cross sections of the earth’s crust at extreme water depths not reachable until recent technological developments. The mission will help reconstruct conditions on the planet 140,000 years ago and implications for the climate change issues we are currently facing.

The IODP has launched its latest expedition in the Baltic Sea. Drill holes are planned along the eastern and southern coast of Sweden and off the eastern coast of Denmark. For the research to be successful high quality rock and sediment samples need to be retrieved from the beneath ocean floor.
