Blyth bunkering
The UK’s Port of Blyth has signed an agreement with The Geos Group, a marine fuel supplier, to build a new fuel storage facility at the Bates terminal.
During the initial phase of development, set to run up until mid 2014, three storage tanks will be built providing an initial capacity of over 15 million litres, with further expansion planned for the future.
Martin Lawlor, chief executive, Port of Blyth, said: “This is excellent news and re-affirms our position as a growing offshore energy hub.”
It’s hoped that new terminal will lead to new jobs because a new bunkering facility will be attractive to both the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.
The move is another step forward for the new Enterprise Zone at the Blyth Estuary, which already houses a significant cluster of marine businesses and organisations.
