Mainprize Buckie build back on track
Maritime Journal has learned that Mainprize Offshore Ltd has agreed full access terms with the receivers of the late Buckie Shipyard meaning its MO1 build is back underway with a late January 2014 launch and early March handover.
Mainprize Offshore has experienced a testing time since the Buckie administration back in August. “One can only truly appreciate what a vessel owner is put through in this situation once you have been through this,” Bob Mainprize, MD, Mainprize Offshore told MJ.
“My feelings go out to all suppliers, contractors and vessel operators that have gone through this; it is a truly challenging time.”
Working at the shipyard to complete the MO1 is a small key team of around 20 staff, 14 hand-picked original Buckie staff, giving a diverse, efficient and effective multi-skilled team along with a dedicated team at Mainprize’s head office overseeing the whole process.
Initial calculations are that the MO1 will be able to carry 40 tonnes of deck cargo and 16 tonnes of fuel. Efficiency calculations with 30 tonnes of fuel or cargo at 27 knots come out at 550 litres per hour. With 10 tonnes of fuel or cargo at 26 knots efficiency is estimated to be 370 litres per hour.
Mr Mainprize said: “These indicative figures will be highly attractive to operators for reducing fuel cost and servicing and therefore the day rate. This along with the size and versatility of the MO1 will make this vessel hugely attractive.”
He’d like to thank the many suppliers and contractors including MAP Ltd, Hercules Hydraulics Ltd, Finning UK Ltd, Close Brothers Marine Finance and Nic De Waal of Teknicraft the vessel designer, “Who have all, have been very supportive working with us to get the MO1 in the water.”
Mainprize invited clients to view the vessel by appointment during the month of December.
