Floating platform launched
France’s Nass&Wind Offshore has tested a floating platform off Saint-Vaast la Hougue (Manche) which will take environmental and technical measurements at sea for marine renewable energy (MRE) projects.
The floating platform, which is 12m in diameter, 5.2m high and weighs 70 tonnes, carries a suite of instruments commonly used by MRE project development experts.
Nass&Wind Offshore said the floating measurement platform, designed with the financial support of the Brittany Region, can collect accurate and reliable environmental data to help limit the technical and financial risks of proposed MRE projects.
The company is also looking to establish partnerships with scientific institutes and environmental organisations interested in using the platform to conduct experiments and collect scientific and environmental data.
The platform took a year to design and develop with the help of shipyard Manche Industrie Marine in Dieppe.
