Boskalis wins Baltic Ace salvage contract
The Dutch Department of Public Works has notified Royal Boskalis Westminster of its intention to award it the contract to salvage the ‘Baltic Ace’, along with its partner Mammoet Salvage.
The wreck of the Baltic Ace and its cargo need to be removed because they pose a threat to the environment and to shipping on the busy route heading towards the Port of Rotterdam.
Activities during the project will include the removal of the entire wreck including its cargo and around 540,000 litres of fuel. A diving support vessel, tugs, barges and sheerlegs will be deployed as part of the project along with equipment from SMIT joint venture Asian Lift and Boskalis subsidiary, Dockwise.
A Boskalis spokesperson told Maritime Journal that the contract is due to be awarded in the second half of March.
Execution of the contract is scheduled to begin later in the year and should be completed before the end of 2015.
