Iberdrola spends €159m on R&D
Spanish multinational electric utility company, Iberdrola, allocated €159m to R&D in 2013, up 10% on the previous year, and a large chunk was allocated towards the development of renewable energy.
The company set up various offshore projects last year including Innpacto Emerge and Aqua Ventus, which focus on the development of floating platforms in deep waters. Meanwhile, the Cenit Azimut and EERA Dtoc projects are geared towards optimising the development of offshore wind farms.
Iberdrola is also focusing on its Low Impact initiative, which aims to promote gravity foundations for installation at intermediate depth or the Offshore Wind Accelerator – a special programme run by the UK Carbon Trust to reduce the costs and risks associated with this type of installation.
All of these initiatives are intended to guarantee the market’s efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness with a view to being able to meet the needs and challenges that lie ahead.
