MTU engines for Seacat WFSVs
MTU is to provide six of its 12V 2000 M72 engines for three new windfarm support vessels (WFSVs) being built for UK-based Seacat Services.
The vessels’ main propulsion will be generated by two MTU 12V 2000 M72 engines per vessel, each with a power rating of 900 kW. Combined with Rolls-Royce 56A3 water jets, MTU says the engines will power the vessels to speeds of up to 30 knots.
MTU says its 2000 series of engines are proving popular in the demanding windfarm service vessel market. Seacat Services alone is already operating nine WFSVs equipped with MTU engines.
Two of the three new catamarans, being built by South Boats IOW, will be the longest vessels in Seacat’s fleet, with a length of 26m. The third vessel will be 24m long and already has four sister vessels at Seacat. Both vessel types offer space for 12 passengers and equipment, materials and spare parts.
