Safety first at SMM
German life-saving expert, Bernhardt Apparatebau, has recently presented a new range of Secumar lifejackets and survival suits at both the SMM and WindEnergy exhibitions.
Part of the new product range is the newly developed GOLF 275 FR AC lifejacket. The well proven 275 Newton universal commercial lifejacket has now been enhanced with antistatic and flame retardant properties to DIN EN 1149-3 / DIN EN ISO 14116 Index 1.
When used in conjunction with suitable type-approved protective clothing, it completely negates any chance of a spark and so is the ideal lifejacket to be worn during work in an explosive environment such as oil tankers, oil refineries, storage tank farms or chemical works.
As well as lifejackets, the company has unveilled two new exciting developments to combat hypothermia – the CONTRA 110 LW and HD thermal suit and the CONTRA 140 AS industrial survival suit.
The CONTRA 110 LW is a protective thermal suit which is lightweight, comfortable and breathable. As an undersuit, it is perfectly comfortable to wear under other outer work-wear and with different base-level underwear can accommodate all external temperatures. The CONTRA 110 HD is the heavy duty version with an extremely abrasion resistant but nevertheless supple NOMEX outer fabric. Both suits meet the standard DIN EN ISO 15027-1.
A characteristic element of the CONTRA 140 AS survival suit is its fall arrest system which has been developed in collaboration with specialist firm Bornack and can be integrated within the suit as personal PPE – whether for shipping, offshore, wind, gas or oil installations and meets standard DIN EN ISO 15027-1 and SOLAS.
The internal arrangement of the fall-arrest harness has the advantage that, in comparison with external arranged harnesses worn outside a suit, stops folds and cut-offs in the suit that could create interruptions to blood supply and unwanted air pockets.
A special retaining element in the suit means that it is easy to take off and on without first having to remove the harness, which is also considerably more convenient and more comfortable for the user. But the harness can be dis-assembled and worn separately if required.
