New Cat power for C175

Designed specifically for commercial operations including ocean going tugs, the engines are now available with ratings of 2239 to 2550bkW @ 1800rpm, extending Cat’s high speed engine power range beyond the 3516C-HD engine.

“Designed to improve total vessel profitability by providing durability with unmatched power output, the C175 offers ample benefits to our tug and salvage customers as a durable, high performer,” said Nathan Kelly, product definition engineer, Caterpillar Marine.

One major benefit of the new power range is that it is easier to service because there is greater accessibility to the cylinder heads and valve train components, he said.

The engines utilise ACERT technology to optimise turbocharging and after-cooling. Efficient combustion reduces engine wear and maximises fuel consumption.

They also feature the Cat common rail fuel system enabling low emissions at all levels which require no after treatment to comply with regulations. In addition to an 1,000-hour oil change interval, thermo-laminated heat shields save time and money during service.

Additional features include an MCS approved monitoring, alarm, and protection system, a cross-flow head design and a simplified electrical system.
