Sustainable waterborne infrastructure
The PIANC World Congress in San Francisco, California, saw the grant of the first Working with Nature (WwN) Award, which recognises sustainable waterborne transport infrastructure projects.
Three winning projects were selected by the WwN jury from seven international waterborne transport infrastructure projects which were awarded PIANC’s WwN Certificate of Recognition over the course of the last year.
The first prize winner was the ‘New Tidal Area Kreetsand’, Elbe River project in Germany spearheaded by the Hamburg Port Authority. In second place was the ‘3m Navigation Channel Middle Mississippi River’ project in the USA, project managed by USACE.
The third winning project was the ‘Flood Spillway Rees’, Rhine River project in Germany managed by WSA Duisburg-Rhein.
PIANC has made all of the projects available via its WwN website in the hope of sharing technical expertise across the whole industry.
The PIANC WwN Award is presented once every four years. It is next due for award in 2018 in Panama at the 34th PIANC World Congress.
