Cable route survey project
UK hydro survey expert, Osiris Projects, is nearing completion of a large scale cable route survey of the proposed 700+MW HVDC Celtic Interconnector Project between the south coast of Ireland and northwest France.
Osiris was contracted by EirGrid and RTE to complete a full geophysical investigation of the route from both beach manholes. But in addition to land operations, the firm mobilised the shallow drafted inshore vessels MV Proteus and MV Chartwell performed the coastal and near shore aspects of the project. Chartwell is now close to completion of multibeam and sidescan acquisition on site.

Over the past five years Osiris Projects has grown considerably not only in size but also in capability, reflected in this high-profile contract award.”
Meanwhile, the 80m DPII charter vessel, RSS Ernest Shackleton undertook the offshore element of the project spending over 50 days on site acquiring multibeam, side scan sonar, pinger, sparker and magnetometer data.
The vessel is ideally suited to the more exposed offshore sites and can operate comfortably in 2m significant wave height.
Geotechnical and benthic surveys for the project will be conducted by the vessel during 2015.
