Cavotec MoorMaster supports Jan de Nul work
Cavotec’s MoorMaster automated mooring system is proving useful in Australia, supporting Jan De Nul’s 350 hectares dredging work for the New Parallel Runway Project for Brisbane Airport.
Cavotec’s MoorMaster is a vacuum-based mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on the quayside or pontoons, moor and release vessels in seconds.
“MoorMaster vacuum system has been very effective because we were able to win more than 20 to 30 minutes per mooring / unmooring. We could also reduce the hazards (related to conventional mooring techniques) by using less manual handling,” said William Krijnen, operational superintendent, New Parallel Runway Project, Jan De Nul.
“The use of MoorMaster resolved our concerns with regards to safety hazards – (related to conventional mooring techniques and on dolphins in open water) – and this system also reduced the mooring/unmooring times significantly, approximately 1 – 1.5 hours per day,” he added.
Eight specially adapted MoorMaster MM200 units moor the Charles Darwin dredger twice a day, and have been in operation since April this year.
