First MTU engines for Sanmar tugs

The vessels, which are being built in Sanmar’s shipyard south of Istanbul, Turkey, will each have a bollard pull of 75 tonnes.

“We are looking forward to putting these two tugboats into service. They will be the first vessels in our fleet equipped with MTU engines,” said Ali Gürün, heading the project at Sanmar.

Sanmar says the contract is seen as a starting point; if it’s satisfied with MTU’s engines and services, it will likely order more.

MTU is also providing all spare parts for the automation system that will be required for servicing in the first 5,000 operating hours.
