Kooiman to outfit hybrid tug
Netherlands-based Scheepswerf Gebr. Kooiman BV is to outfit a 23.5m hybrid tug for Koedood BV.
The vessel, Sil-Jeske-B, which has a bollard pull of 26 tonnes, will be fitted with main engines, auxiliary diesel engines and electric motor/generator will be supplied by Koedood. In addition, Kooiman will also modify the existing hull.
As well as the conventional propulsion diesel engines, the tug will also be equipped with electric motors driving the propellers which are fed by two diesel generator sets. During normal sailing conditions, the electric motors also can serve as generator, feeding the board net without the use of a diesel driven generator set having to be started.
Kooiman says the electric propulsion also allows the vessel to only run with one or two generator sets without use of the main engines, at lower speeds and stand-by works – an environmentally-friendly quality.
In addition to the outfitting, Kooiman is modifying the existing hull on line.
