Expanding the hydro survey offering

Plymouth UK based Ecospan Environmental Ltd has purchased an R2SONIC multi-beam echo-sounder package which will enable it to enhance its current hydrographic survey capabilities.

Ecospan, an environmental consultancy which specialises in marine ecological surveys, wants to improve its current survey methods by utilising backscatter and raw water column capabilities to assist in environmental impact assessments for dredging and harbour development activities.

Its new piece of kit, the SONIC 2020 from R2SONIC, is capable of sitting in the palm of the hand and has narrow focused 2×2 degree beam widths, ideal for small survey vessels, ROV or AUV operations.

Ecospan, which exhibited for the first time this year at Seawork International, has been working on drumming up new business with a particular emphasis on targeting harbour masters.

It has been invested heavily in further equipment and skills training to incorporate new services and expand existing services to other sectors, including dredging.
