Yanmar unveils new EPA-compliant engine

The four-cycle, in-line six-cylinder 6AYAM-ET is rated at 755 mHP and 1900 RPM and uses a fully mechanical control system for easy servicing and reliable performance.

Yanmar says it offers a number of key features for commercial vessel operators, including low fuel consumption, stable cruising with the least amount of speed reduction, and continuous rating suitable for tugboats, river push boats, trawlers and other applications with uninterrupted operations or load cycles.

In addition, a 500-hour service interval aided by a purpose-built marine design featuring a long stroke, water cooled exhaust manifold, special coated liner and nodular cast iron piston with coated piston rings are said to ensure minimum downtime.

To comply with strict emissions regulations, the 6AYAM-ET uses an internal exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Yanmar says this design does not require any external control devices or significant engine structure changes.

The micro-sized multiple holes in the new injectors produce an even finer fuel mist, which combined with the combustion chamber, is said to produce more power while also lowering exhaust emissions and fuel consumption.

As with all Yanmar engines, this latest edition is approved by Marine Class Societies.
