Seafarers Awareness Week
Seafarers Awareness Week, taking place from 20 to 28 June 2015, will look to raise awareness of Britain’s dependence on seafarers and highlight career opportunities for young people.
‘Opportunities to Work at Sea’ is the theme for this year’s Awareness Week, which is coordinated by Seafarers UK. The focus of the campaign will be on the promotion of education, training and recruitment services that can lead to employment in the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy – including ferries, workboats, cruise ships, tankers and cargo ships.
“With so many opportunities, including in growth areas such as cruise ships, superyachts and renewable energy developments, it is paramount we ensure that the next generation views working at sea as a viable and exciting career option,” said Nick Harvey, campaigns manager, Seafarers UK.
The Week will also promote the vital role seafarers play in the UK and global economics – an industry employing 1.5 million seafarers worldwide, of which 71,310 are from the UK.
Maritime industry associations, employers, training providers and recruitment organisation will come together to raise the profile of seafaring and maritime jobs to a wide audience.
