SeaKing addresses the skills gap
UK based marine electrical marine engineering expert, SeaKing Electrical, is experiencing an upsurge in work following increased demand overseas to fill holes created by the global engineering skills gap.
The Birkenhead firm has recently secured contracts with a series of shipyards across Europe, the Middle East, America and the Caribbean ranging from design and survey work right through to installation and maintenance.
Dave Gillam, managing director, SeaKing Electrical, said: “These jobs have involved the supply of expert engineers to fill gaps where there are skill and personnel shortages. We are seeing an increase in enquiries from firms requiring additional expertise or manpower.”
He said that this increase in demand fits in well with the firm’s strategy to expand internationally in the ferry, tug, military, dive support and offshore sectors.
The firm is addressing the global skills gap in its own way too. It has a strong apprenticeship scheme and is passionate about nurturing new talent and investing in the region’s next generation of workers.
