Proven pilot boat design for Oman

The vessels will also function as search and rescue and oil spill recovery vessels so Camarc will be focusing on a multi-purpose design built around a popsure fender system which works to reduce and spread impact loads into the structure.

Alastair Cameron, director, Camarc Design Ltd, told Maritime Journal: “These are the latest in a long series of vessels for Kvichak. They will be multi-purpose vessels equipped with the popsure fender system, crane and oil spill recovery boom.”

The new all-aluminium vessels, scheduled for completion in spring 2016, will be powered by twin Cummins QSK-19 marine diesel engines rated for 800hp at 2100 rpm each and twin ZF 2000A transmissions driving NiBrAl 5-bladed fixed propellers, providing an operating speed of 20 knots.

They will be used in all types of weather, including the high winds and stormy seas experienced in southern Oman during typhoon season.

Camarc entered into the US boat build market back in the 90s with a robust 22m self-righting boat for the Columbia River Bar pilots in Oregon. Since then it has gone on to secure a major deal with the US Coastguard for 13m RBM search and rescue vessels, which is still ongoing.

To Camarc, relationships are as important with the yard as with the customer and the design firm has a long standing relationship with Kvichak, with which it has partnered on the design and build of many new generation pilot craft.
