CWind campaign to protect North Sea windfarm
CWind is to provide a three-month corrosion protection campaign for Westermost Rough offshore windfarm in the North Sea, owned by DONG Energy, The UK Green Investment Bank and Marubeni Corporation.
Structural elements of offshore windfarms are continuously exposed to one of the harshest environments. Salt, seawater and marine growth can affect the paintwork on offshore structures both externally and internally. To maintain the integrity of their assets, offshore windfarm owners have to ensure paintworks are intact and the structures are protected against corrosion.
“Protecting paint work offshore is a complex task, conditions have to be assessed and maintained to ensure protection is comprehensive once the job is completed,” said Stephen Reynolds, offshore site manager, DONG Energy. “This corrosion protection campaign is one of the final stages of the construction process to ensure that all the structures out at sea enter operational service in the best condition possible.”
The campaign will be delivered by CWind as an integrated service package that includes a crew transfer vessel as well as a team of technicians to carry out the full range of required tasks.
“Any offshore windfarm in operation has to ensure that minor damages to paintwork don’t become expensive repair jobs, we are delighted that we are able to support DONG Energy in this campaign,” added Peter Jorgensen, managing director, CWind.
