Admiralty E-Navigator introduced

Introduced in December, Admiralty E-Navigator is the UK Hydrographic Office’s new integrated digital catalogue, product viewer and passage planning aid for organising, updating and consolidating all paper and digital information needed for planning safe voyages while simplifying essential tasks.

It also provides a channel to other innovative Admiralty digital products and services as well as those from other companies. Launch of the system reportedly marks the first stage of the UKHO’s plans to help mariners and shipping companies meet the requirements of rapidly changing commercial and compliance environments in addition to providing better decision making tools at every stage of planning and voyage execution.

Using the system, mariners can quickly plot routes and identify the most appropriate products needed to navigate safety and compliantly. It typically compares products required with what a ship holds, allowing new ones to be ordered if needed. New products can be accessed instantly and, if appropriate, transferred to the front of bridge ECDIS. The UKHO’s head of products, Hugh Phillips, said development of E-Navigator is the outcome of close collaboration with mariners at every stage of its evolution.
