UK-headquartered Bibby HydroMap has completed major geophysical, geotechnical, benthic and land survey operations along the route from mainland Scotland to the Isle of Lewis on behalf of SHE Transmission.
Three vessels were deployed with the 27.5m Bibby Tethra acquiring over 1,000 line km of data using a newly-installed dual-head Kongsberg EM2040-4 multibeam sounder supported by an Edgetech 4200 sidescan sonar, and a Geometrics magnetometer positioned by a latest Sonardyne Miniranger 2 USBL. Shallow sub-bottom profiler data was also obtained using the vessel’s hull-mounted Applied Acoustics pinger.
One of the other two vessels completing operations, Proteus, has recently been upgraded for coastal survey work with installation of a new portable dual-head Reson T20-P multibeam sounder. With an operating frequency of 200-400KHz and a configurable beamformer with multiple detection capabilities it is essentially designed for shallow water undertakings.
