Double Indonesia contract win for Boskalis
Netherlands based dredging giant Royal Boskalis Westminster has been awarded two contracts in Indonesia which carry a combined value of some €75 million.
The first project, awarded by construction company PT PP, entails the expansion of a new terminal for the Makassar New Port by 45 hectares. The scope of works for port operator PT Pelindo IV includes the removal of soft clay followed by land reclamation works which require the dredging and supply of sand. The port is a strategic maritime infrastructure project for the Indonesian government and is designated as the gateway to the Eastern Indonesian Archipelago for international container carriers. One of Boskalis’ two mega trailing suction hopper dredgers will be deployed later this year for a project expected to last approximately six months.
The second contract will involve land reclamation for Lotte Chemicals’ new petrochemical complex in the coastal city of Cilegon on the island of Java. Boskalis will preoare 95 hectares of land for construction purposes by supplying supplying sand and improving the soil by means of vertical drainage executed by Boskalis subsidiary Cofra. The project will be executed for the engineering and construction arm of South Korean conglomerate Lotte. Boskalis will again deploy a mega trailing suction hopper dredger due to commence in the second half of this year.
Meanwhile back in the Netherlands, Boskalis has announced the start of a €100 million share buyback programme which was first announced earlier this year. Based on the then current share price, it represents some 4.1 million shares, equal to more than three percent of the current outstanding share capital.
